Wheatus/Girls Aloud - Teenage dirtbag

Take a perfectly kitschy early 2000 one-hit-wonder and combine it with a perky and poppy UK girl-band. What do you get? A pretty terrible but addictive cover song.

Thrush Hermit- French Inhale

What more to say? The song that ignited my love of all things Thrush Hermit and Joel Plaskett! A Canadian indie classic.

RIP Streek: Ministry - Just One Fix

Legendary Toronto DJ Martin Streek passed away on 6 July 09. His live to air broadcasts were legendary. Nowhere else on mainstream radio could you hear 'Just One fix'. I hate when people are affected by death of celebrities. However after 20 years of faithful listening, I am sadden by his death. From earlier 90's red light moshing to 'Self Esteem' to silly drunken slam dancing to 'Break Stuff", Club102 was broadcast and Streek was voice of the night. I like so many others in the blogosphere are mourning his death. Finally, his death should act as a reminder for us all to keep up our mental health and support our loved ones that may be suffering.

Friday Cheese: The Heights - How Do You Talk To An Angel

Hey Kids! After a short hiatus, the cheese has return. This time, featuring a wonderfully cheesy nineties hit. The best thing? On the eve of America's Birthday, It's more then a posting about cheese, it's a posting about the American dream. We present the Heights featuring front man Jamie Walters.

Jamie Walters, where are you now? (Answer). You were once a rising teen idol. You were a teen heart throbe. You had cameos on 90210. You threw donna down a set of stairs. You became FOX's answer to Eddie Vedder. A pretty face with a pretty song.

Soon after it debuted, Fox canceled the Heights. How do you talk to an Angel? shot to #1. It won an emmy, and then the band broke up and Jamie went solo. He released a couple of slightly successful albums and then fell off face of the earth. Like other good teen idols, he recently resurfaced on a reality show.

However, unlike allot of former celebrities, Mr. Walters has done good. He's a Firefighter in LA. According to wikipedia, he hopes to return to performing.

Bonus: The performance from the first episode.

Treble Charger - 10th Grade Love

I stumbled across this video while browsing youtube. For me, this song is all about a time and place from what seems forever ago. It's one of of my favourite songs of that era of my life. I've always thought that Treble Charger lost there way once they joined a major label.

Friday Cheese: Slik Toxik - Helluvatime

In the early 90's, right before Nirvana dropped, there was a time that hair rock ruled the radio. In Toronto, CHOG was on the air and all the major labels were still selling the next Sebastian Bach.. A number of bands from Canada came out, notably Slik Toxic and Sven Gali. Both hand a very fast rid to fame, and then crashed into never-neverland shortly after the Nirvana revolution. Today's feature is "Helluvatime", a wonderfully cheesy glam track .

The members of Slik toxic, are not involved in other projects. Notably, as of 2009 lead singer Nick Walsh is now in the band Revolver. While there albums appear out of print, Spotlight Music posted links to download.

Whether you love or hate Kayne it's hard to disgree that the Paranoid video again proves that he is willing to take creative risks. From the tracks heavy synth beats to crazy sexy, stylish video Kayne continues to push hip hop into new and more creative directions. I can only hope the next generation of young hip hop artists take inspiration from Kayne by creating more innovative and original material.

Stay in and watch tv

From the CTV Website;

"Spectacle's wild circus mix of interview and performance returns to the younger side of the musical mosaic with this fascinating familial portrait. A group of young artists who hail from sometimes famous show business families take center stage on their own : Jenny Lewis, Jakob Dylan and the indie duo She & Him (singer-songwriter-actress Zooey Deschanel and guitarist/producer M. Ward). Elvis' interviews explore both their current musical adventures and their earliest family influences. Musical performances include Jenny Lewis and Elvis getting together for a song from her new album (which EC played on), Jakob Dylan playing a primitive, stripped-down version of a Wallflower song before sharing a duet with Elvis, and She & Him, according to the Sundance website, "showing off their intriguing, timeless sound". The program comes to a rousing close with Elvis and the all the guests "hooking up for a fitting finale on one of the host's signature hits".

Encore presentations of CTV's Friday night broadcast airing on Bravo! Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET and Sundays at 6 p.m. ET.

Friday Cheese 'Kish - Rhyme the World in 80 Days'

I spent the afternoon listening to R3's Lanarama pondering songs for the my revival of The Friday Cheese Show for the blog. As if the rock'n'roll gods were listening, in-between Canadian indie gems and discovering Amanada Putz was eating cold seafood chowder, Lana manages to play 'Drop the Needle' by Maestro Fresh Wes. Instantly I remembered Kish, Canada's answer to Vanilla Ice. Of course all my thoughts are unoriginal. Frantically googling for all things Kish, I discovered the fine bloggers over at Herohill had profiled Kish two years ago! It seems that even the most indie-cool bloggers enjoy the cheese.

Chromeo - "Nice N Clean" - Yo Gabba Gabba

Sometimes internet side trips take interesting turns. Tonight, my adventure turned to YouTube and the strange childrens world of "Yo Gabba Gabba". With regular segments featuring Biz Markie (Biz's Beat of the Day) and musical guest like Montreal's electrodiscoporn act "Chromeo", it's evident that the shows is a brilliant mix of children's programing and the world of indie rock.

Marilyn Manson: Arma-Goddamn-Motherfuckin-Geddon

It's been a long time since I actively listed to Marilyn Manson. Along with most fans of the music of his era, I've gotten over my teen angst. Listening to the first single 'Arma-Goddamn-Motherfuckin-Geddon' it sounds like he is out of ideas. In his latest single, he revisits his early sucesss ripping off his hit 'Beautiful People'. In fact, I'm sure if I could of heard this single in 1996, I would of given it a favorable review. It's not bad song, really it's a great sounding song. But this is 2009. The Kingdom is closed, I'm old and cranky and Mr. Manson, your boring.

P.S: According to the reviews , most critic blogger-types feel the same way.

Your liver pays dearly now for youthful magic moments.

I've always been a big music geek. For the last 8 year or so, I've thought about devoting some www love to rock and roll. Through the hype of blogs, podcasts, youtube, facebook and now twitter, I've known there is outlet for my musings. Recently, I have been using facebook and friendfeed to post my online musical finds.. But that medium is limited to friends and honestly they really don't seem to give a shit what sort of hipster rock I'm in love with today.. So rather then shut up, I've decided to go for a bigger stage. Here's to another rock and roll blog...
